The embedded engineering traineeship

After finishing my computer science degree I came across querdenker engineering GmbH in Ichenheim and got in touch. A first phone call with Maike led straight to an invitation to come and meet the team. In that conversation it quickly became clear that moving from computer science and application-oriented software development into deep embedded projects would take some learning on my part. I was invited to a trial day all the same, and afterwards I was offered a six-month traineeship.

At the start, an induction plan was drawn up based on what I already knew and on where I wanted to get to in embedded systems. That let me spend the first month getting to grips with C++, with all the learning material provided. My motivation was particularly high because I was then allowed to work on a client project. That project work gave me a lot of practical knowledge: alongside using C++ in earnest, I got an insight into software design, which at university had only ever been covered in theory.

The traineeship did a great deal for me, because I was always well supported and encouraged, and could gain experience and get to know working life without too much pressure. It was accompanied by regular feedback conversations in which things were discussed openly and the induction plan was reviewed. Throughout the whole time I met with a lot of willingness to help in every area. The whole team was always open to questions, so I settled in quickly.
